Southern England has a new destination route for walkers with the official inauguration this week of the South Hams Way, a 100-mile circular walking route that’s nearly evenly split between coast and inland locations in Devonshire.
The route starts in the town of Totnes, known for its variety of shops and listed buildings, and takes in a 50-mile stretch of the existing South West Coast Path as well as passing through Dartmoor National Park and the South Devon National Landscape.
Organizers point out that it crosses through “four different types of scenery and terrain,” ranging from coastal paths to deep green valleys, five estuaries each with its own charms and the wilds of Dartmoor.
It’s marked off in ten sections, each of which includes access to public transport, shops, refreshments and lodging.
