Uber, which spent seven years in exile from Denmark because of laws protecting the taxi industry is now the owner of Denmark’s largest taxi company, Dantaxi.
Dantaxi operates about 3,500 taxis across 75 of Denmark’s 98 municipalities. In a statement last week announcing the company’s acquisition by Uber, Dantaxi’s CEO said “The partnership with Uber opens an exciting new chapter for Dantaxi.”
From 2017 until last year, there were no Ubers in Denmark, but the company and its app returned last year with an agreement that let it operate in Copenhagen, but only by dispatching licensed taxis. Under that deal, a Danish taxi firm, Drivr, provided the drivers and cars ordered through the Uber app. A similar system will now include the Dantaxi fleet, but under Uber ownership.
In Rome, taxis are not owned by Uber, but you can order one through the app
