Delta, whose widebody fleet orders have been going exclusively to Airbus since the beginning of this century, has veered back to Boeing for 30 787-10s, with an option for 30 more.
The new planes, to be delivered starting in five years, will mainly replace Delta’s long-serving and now aging fleet of 767s. The -10, largest of the 787 family, has less range but more seats than its smaller siblings, but plenty for all but the longest routes.
Delta also has fleet-update plans for its narrow-body planes, with sizable orders for both Airbus A321s and Boeing 737 Max 10s.
