We were sitting on the bank of the Colorado River and enjoying a picnic lunch in Canyonlands National Park, when what I first thought was a dragonfly flew past us and landed on a nearby rock.
Turns out it was a damselfly. Damselflies have large wings, thin bodies, and rest with their wings parallel to their bodies. This is the best way to distinguish them from dragon flies, which hold their wings perpendicular to their bodies when at rest.
