In the courtyard of the San Pablo Cultural Center in Oaxaca, Mexico these musicians put music in your mind, if not in your ears.

They are the work of Victor Vazquez, who comes from a generations-old tradition of working in clay, but before him, mostly to make kitchen utensils.

He explained to an interviewer a few years ago that “The large-format pieces are something personal, my own. I used to make small pieces, but these are a challenge for myself. Each piece is very complex; I haven’t even been able to figure out how to construct them myself. Each one has been a different challenge and represents something distinct in its creation.”
