The Church of San Nicolò l’Arena is located in Piazza Dante Alighieri, Catania. This first church at the site was inaugurated in 1578 and was part of a monastery. The original church was destroyed by an eruption of Mt. Etna, and the church was rebuilt starting in 1687. It was damaged by bombing in World War II but has largely been restored since then.
The church was closed when we visited, but I would have loved to have explored its interior. Perhaps in a future visit.
