After two years of sailing bans, sailing restrictions and health warnings, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control now says it has no warnings out for anyone who’d like to take a cruise. The decision came after CDC had already dropped its warning level from 4 to 3 to 2 within the past few weeks.
But the end of the warnings doesn’t mean cruising will immediately go back to pre-pandemic status; it comes because not only is the current trend downward from the pandemic but because cruise lines have taken measures to reduce risk.
A statement from the Cruise Lines International Association pointed out that “Today’s decision by the … CDC to altogether remove the Travel Health Notice for cruising recognizes the effective public health measures in place on cruise ships…” Those measures include vaccine requirements, testing and other health measures which lines are not choosing to roll back completely.
