Visiting the Alhambra in Granada, Spain is a double treat: the beautiful and elaborate palaces, and the sprawling gardens of the adjacent Generalife.

My last visit was on a pleasant day in May, warm enough to tempt us into several hours wandering the gardens and finding, that for me, the stars of the show were not the formal plantings but the casual arrangements spotted here and there along the paths.

The effect was almost that of fields of wildflowers in all their colors.
