Carnival Cruise Line is taking at-sea gambling in a new direction; in addition to its shipboard casinos, it’s now starting a lottery with a million-dollar prize and a daily draw across its fleet.
It’s the first fleetwide lottery in the cruise industry, and bears some resemblance to popular land-based games such as MegaMillions and Powerball. Tickets for Carnival Millions will be sold through the ships’ WiFi network once the passengers are on board.
Daily drawings will offer a variety of prizes ranging from onboard credits on up to the big prize, which is not guaranteed to be awarded on any given day. Prizes are paid out through the shipboard app.
The announcement didn’t give any details on possible legal issues if tickets are sold while in territorial waters of a state or country, and where taxes might be levied.
