The island of Burano lies to the north of Venice in the Venetian Lagoon, quite close to another island, Torcello. It is famous for its lacemaking and colourful houses.
The island with about 4,000 inhabitants is one of my favourite parts of Venice. It has a curious, leaning bell tower (not exactly like Pisa) that is visible from a distance.
Residents are required to keep the façades of their homes in good order and to repaint them in the same colour when they start to fade.
Nice shots! Seems quite uncrowded – out of season?
Thank you, yes it was April and a bit chilly, loved it.
I visited Burano a few years ago and loved it. Your photos tell the story of its charm and beauty!
Thanks Marilyn, it is indeed charming and beautiful lace products.
Great photos, Judy! I love Burano. If I ever get back to Venice (and hopefully I will), I’d like to spend a couple of lazy days here, taking in the scene and enjoying some fresh seafood!
Thank you, hope you do get back and enjoy that seafood!
