Brussels plans to double bubblers

Belgium’s Brussels region and its water supplier are making a big push to keep area residents hydrated when they are out and about, with a plan to nearly double the area’s 117 public fountains.

The project, to be carried out by Vivaqua, the area water supplier, is part of a ‘Blue Community’ project to push free drinking water. Bernard Van Nuffel, who is a local councillor and head of Vivaqua told press that “Promoting tap water is very important, especially in the current economic context. It is not without consequences for a part of the population.”

The first 28 new fountains will go in this year, with the others following shortly.
