British rail: Old posters, new message

A series of classic British railway posters, originally issued in the 1920s and 30s to encourage travelers to use the rail network to reach popular and enticing destinations has been republished with a new message: “Not yet, but do return.”

The posters have been issued by the National Railway Museum in York, drawing on its collection for ten of the best. They’ve each been modified with slogans such as “Back Soon,” “One day soon, but not today” and “Visit us when this is all over.”

According to museum director Judith McNicol, “At a time of widespread travel restrictions, we hope that recreating a selection of the most popular travel posters will enable people to enjoy some of their favourite holiday destinations while celebrating the style and glamour of these works of art.”
