Younger travelers key to travel recovery?

Boomers may have the time and money to travel, but a number of industry experts say its the younger groups—Gen X, millenials and Gen Z—who are ready to hit the road again in these unsettled time.

Travel Weekly, reporting from a conference sponsored by Virtuoso Travel, reported studies that show 84.2% of 18-25 year olds say they are ready to travel again, while only 36.2% of the 55-76 group are. For 26-55, it's around 62%. The company ran its survey question "Are you ready to travel again?" in June and again in late July, and found the results remarkably similar.

The results were backed up anecdotally by a number of hotel and travel industry executives at the conference, and American Airlines has reported a distinct shift downward in passenger age.

While the age group may be good news for the industry, the health questions that come with it may not be. One exec pointed out the lack of concern by some: "They are not too concerned about waiting for a vaccine, either. They just want to travel again. They have been living in this virtual world for six months, and they just want to get out."

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
