WOW drops more U.S. destinations

Iceland's WOW airline, in a cash-flow tailspin and fighting to stay in the air while negotiating with new investors, is whacking a good chunk of its U.S. destinations as it shrinks its fleet, and drops half its cities.

The ultra-low-cost carrier with the flashy purple planes specializes in linking U.S. and Canadian destinations with Europe by way of its base at Reykjavik. After a few years of rapid expansion, it will now drop flights to Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York JFK and Dallas/Fort Worth. It had already dropped Cincinnati, Cleveland and St. Louis from new schedules.

That leaves the airline with Baltimore/Washington, Boston, Chicago, New York/Newark, Detroit, Pittsburgh and Orlando. WOW also serves Montreal and Toronto.

After a failed attempt at a merger with Icelandair, WOW has been in negotiations with Indigo Partners, a venture finance firm that owns Frontier Airlines and has been involved with several others.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
