WOW Air: U.S.-to-Europe bargains for light packers

WOW Air, an Iceland-based discount carrier, has added year-round flights between Boston and Reykjavik and seasonal flights from Baltimore, connecting with its flights onward to 20 European cities. The fares are bargain-basement, as low as $228 round-trip to Copenhagen, but they come with some big BUTs.

They include high bag fees (starting at $48), seat assignment charges ($3 to $38) and carry-on fees ($29 and up if you go over 11 pounts). The super-lowest fares are not available every day, but actually do exist on quite a few...when you're a new kid on the block you have to offer something!

WOW has been flying between Iceland and other parts of Europe since 2012, picking up on routes and demand left behind when Iceland Express closed down. According to CEO Skuli Mogensen, they picked Boston and Baltimore for their U.S. entry because Iceland has been well-promoted there in the past.  The flights use 200-seat A321s; although it's an economy-only configuration, Mogensen says they are getting business travelers as well.
