With new roadmap, UK travel bookings zoom

No that's not Brighton in the picture, it's the Greek dream of many UK travelers who see hope ahead after a year of travel opportunities opening and closing, and waiting for refunds. A new government roadmap for lifting restrictions has given hope of local travel in April and overseas travel a month later.

Even the April 12 date for staycations in England and the May 17 date for overseas vacations are not guaranteed not to shift, it appears that planning and booking have taken a sudden leap forward. Within hours of the plan being revealed, package tour sellers such as Tui reported 500% surges in booking, especially to sunny spots in Greece, Spain and Turkey. August through September are the big months, with the best chances of actually happening.

The April 12 date would allow people with second homes, rented cottages and other self-catering facilities with no involvement with others to start; the May date for international travel would also be the start date for UK hotels and B&Bs to resume operations.

Presumably by the time such travel is allowed, a number of other restrictions will have been lifted and travelers entering the UK will not be required to quarantine on arrival home.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
