Where in the World is TravelGumbo? (#120)

witw 120a

Gumbo has left the world of beautiful mountains and the friendly Sherpa people and gone to visit another friendly place.  There's a lot of different architectural styles in the city Gumbo's visiting, but he's drawn especially to this structure.  Here's one of the details of the building Gumbo's fascinated with.

Where is Gumbo's destination?  More clues to follow daily....

I guess it's time for another clue.  I was hopeful someone would look at the original puzzle clue and say "Egypt", but no such luck.  The sphinx is too new perfect-looking and when you pull back a little, you find some decorations around it that let us know we're not in Egypt.

So let's start getting a little more specific.  Here's today's clue.  Anyone recognize this lady sitting outside our building of interest?  She's quite famous....

Speaking of far-flung, she looks as if she's about to fling that orb somewhere!

I admit my first guess at the first picture was Las Vegas...but since I don't know any Victorian-themed hotels in Vegas...

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations

Ah yes...I have been to this place.  Nice pics DrFumblefinger.  Your first photo threw me for a loop, for I don't remember a sphinx being at this location.  But when I saw the other photos, like the lobby shot with the huge staircase containing statues of two large animals (?? bison), and especially the exterior shot with a figure on the top dome...looks like a golden boy....hmmmmmmmm.
