ROME:

Scribbling and Doodling: From Leonardo to Cy Twombly

  • Hidden on the backs of canvases or scrawled on scraps of paper, doodles have allowed artists down the ages, from Michelangelo to Picasso, to test, explore and unleash their creativity.
  • Villa Medici,  March 3-May 22, 2022

LONDON:

Fashioning Masculinities: The Art of Menswear

  • At a moment of unprecedented creativity in men's fashion and reflection on gender, this exhibition explores how designers, tailors and artists – and their clients and sitters – have constructed and performed masculinity, and unpicked it at the seams.
  • Victoria and Albert Museum, until Nov. 6, 2022

Van Gogh Self Portraits

  • It's surprising that there's never been a show dedicated to his vivid self-portraits. The newly-refurbished Courtauld Gallery is rectifying this with a show of 15 self-portraits, charting his life from his early days to his latter years in an asylum — with intense stares aplenty.
  • Courtauld Gallery, Feb 3-May 8, 2022

VIENNA

Vienna Falls in Line: The Politics of Art under National Socialism

  • Exhibit presents new research into how Austrian artists adapted their lives and work to the Nazi regime after Austria was annexed to Germany in 1938, and shines a light on the situation after 1945
  • Vienna Museum MUSA, Oct 14, 2021-Apr 24, 2022
