What happens to water parks in a drought?

California's drought and water restrictions are very much in the news these days—and as a prime travel area, that affects tourists as well as locals. And for some attractions, basic questions of survival and sustainability jump out: How can the water park stay open when watering lawns is banned and some areas have lost running water?

The answer is mixed: some water parks have been unable to open; one in Texas that trucked in 9000 gallons a day last year found it unsustainable (economically and environmentally) but others, including some big ones in California, have found ways to re-use and retain water, enabling them to stay open. As one of the operators quoted in a recent article in THE GUARDIAN (UK) describes it, saving water from waste gives you a little more to splash on customers...
