WestJet extends its U.S. network

WestJet, the big Canadian discount airline, is adding more U.S. cities to its route network, as well as more Trans-Canada flights.

The new U.S. flights are both from Calgary, offering seasonal service to relatively nearby Portland, Oregon using a Bombardier Q400 turboprop, and to fairly far-off Austin, Texas, using a 737. The Austin service will start at two flights a week, while Portland will be daily.

WestJet has also been expanding its connections to European cities, and is adding a trans-Canada flight three days a week between Edmonton, Alberta and St. John's, all the way east in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
