Welcome to world's most- and least-crowded places

Feeling a little squeezed? Here's where to find elbow room—or lots of companions—based on figures from the UN Population Division.

The Telegraph (UK) celebrated World Population Day Wednesday with a photo rundown of some of the winners and losers (your preference will tell you which end of the scale is which, and there's an interactive version of the chart above that lets you click and check for how many neighbors per square mile.

At the extremes of the scale are Greenland, the Falkland Islands and Mongolia with population densities of fewer than 2 people per sq km and Monaco, Macao and Singapore, all of which have more than 8,000 people per sq km.

The absolute tops is Monaco's 25,718.1 people per sq km, while Greenland's population is so sparse that, rounded to oneo decimal place, it's officially listed as 0.0 people per sq km!

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
