'Virtual jockey' ride at Irish museum

Ireland may not be ready to play host to overseas visitors yet, but when it is, it has a number of new attractions, including a new 'Irish Racehorse Experience' at the Irish National Stud and Gardens in County Kildare.

The unique €3.2m interactive ride allows visitors to pick their own horse, trainer and racing colors before taking off on a mechanical horse that simulates a full gallop. The ride shows up on a giant racetrack screen. For those with less adventure in their hearts, there's a commentary booth where visitors can try calling a race, as well as a visit to the stud farm where racing foals are born.

The museum also features a history of Ireland's racing industry and a Who's Who of top riders and horses in Ireland and around the world, as well as the exhibit above comparing heart size among humans, cows and horses. Elsewhere at the site visitors can watch the paddock where retired racehorses live out their lives.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
