Viking's new ship tests hydrogen power

Viking Cruises just got its ninth ocean ship, identical to the previous eight in almost all respects noticeable to cruisers, but with a significant difference under the hood: It's equipped with a small hydrogen fuel system.

The innovative fuel system may play a bigger role in Viking's future; Viking Chairman Torstein Hagen said in the announcement that "it also marks a significant advancement in testing hydrogen as a future fuel for our vessels." Hydrogen fuel systems are designed to reduce climate change by eliminating carbon as a fuel byproduct.

The Viking ocean ships, which have been consistent award-winners, have room for 930 passengers, and are small enough to visit many ports that larger ships cannot. Cruise itineraries are paired with included shore excursions and onboard programs offering insight into the areas visited.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
