UK surfers sweep up the plastic

With more and more attention being focused on the problem of plastic waste, especially in the ocean where it can trap and kill birds, a group of British surfers have taken on a plan to pick it up.

Surfers Against Sewage, which started as a local effort in 1990, campaigning against untreated sewage in the ocean, is organizing a week-long nationwide cleanup of plastic waste on the beaches.

Over the years, it's become a major environmental campaigner, and counts a network of 180 regional groups around the country. In last year's cleanup, 1,200 volunteers collected over 100 tons of plastic.,

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
