UK: Readers choose best small museums

Late last spring when many British museums were still closed by pandemic rules but about to re-open, The Guardian newspaper asked its readers to nominate small museums that are often overlooked by visitors.

The resulting selections, which can be seen in more detail HERE, skip the famous giants like the British Museum and National Gallery, and spread out across the country and interesting (and sometimes troubling) aspects of its history.

Among the nominees: A knitting museum in Ruddington, a museum featuring recent decades of music in Coventry, the International Slavery Museum in Liverpool, a steam-powered pump house that maintained canal water levels, a coal mining museum and more.
