U.S. National Parks skip the fees

The U.S. National Park Service says you're free to enter and free to enjoy the healthy outdoor air—but warns visitors to keep their distance, Most parks are open, but those such as Ellis Island or the Washington Monument that have crowds built in will stay closed.

You'll be on your own at the parks, because all visitor centers, lodges, shuttles and restaurants are closed down for the duration; that not only reduces contact for visitors, it also helps keep park workers safe from contamination.

Unfortunately, the opportunity is not for all: If you don't live close enough to a park to make it a day trip with your own food and drink, you should find a place closer to home. Many state and local facilities have also dropped fees, although some are closed.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
