TV leads to Mafia chef arrest

This may be more of a Darwin Award story than a travel piece, although it involves a man who took a long trip to avoid being prosecuted in Italy and the Netherlands as a Mafia drug traficker.

Marc Feren Claude Biart slipped off to the Dominican Republic in 2014, taking up residence in Boca Chica and leading a quiet life—except for a seemingly inexplicable desire to show off his Italian cooking skills on a YouTube channel.

His face was kept hidden on his videos, but not his distinctive tattoos. After they were recognized, he was arrested on an Interpol warrant and is awaiting extradition to Europe to face trial.

Note that the picture above shows his arrest—but we still have no picture of his face.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
