TSA straining with airport crowds

The Transportation Safety Administration, faced with growing crowds and longer lines as air traffic picks up, is sending its office staff into the field to help man airport checkpoints.

Daily volume at the airports is now over 1.5 million daily, with a pandemic-era record of over two million set a few days ago, and TSA simply doesn't have the troops to handle it all, leading to longer lines and complaints.

The shifts in the field are voluntary, and have been called for in the past over holiday weekends and other heavy days, but this time TSA is asking for stints of up to 45 days, because the summer heavy travel season is still ahead and the agency does not yet have the 6,000 additional agents it's been authorized to hire and train. Shortages are expected at over 130 airports around the U.S.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
