Trump orders Marriott out of Cuba

Marriott's Sheraton Four Points Hotel in Havana, a centerpiece of U.S. tourism investment in Cuba since the 2016 thaw in U.S.-Cuban relations has been ordered by the U.S. to cease operations by August 31, reflecting the Trump administration's determination to re-freeze U.S.-Cuban travel.

The hotel, previously known as the Hotel Quinta Avenida, is the only U.S.-branded hotel in Cuba; it's located in the beachfront Miramar area. The hotel chain was denied a renewal of its special U.S. license, but hopes to return, perhaps under a future administration. The company statement said "Marriott continues to believe that Cuba is a destination that travelers, including Americans, want to visit. Marriott looks forward to reopening in Cuba if and when the U.S. government gives us permission to do business there again."

Since 2017, the U.S. has taken repeated steps to close down U.S. travel to Cuba, first barring individual travel to the island for most, and then ordering U.S.-based cruise ships to stop port calls in Cuba.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations

A lesson in "How to lose Friends and Influence in a Modern World" Trump is damaging more than just Cuba. How to persecute 10 million people who have no choice in their Government. It's a Military Junta. Not Communist at all. Like China.
