Tree Tunnel Road, Kauai

The main access road to the Koloa/Poipu region of Kauai's south shore is Maluhia Road.  Most people call it "Tree Tunnel Road" because of the many trees growing along this 3-mile stretch of highway, which seem to form a tunnel. These are eucalyptus trees, planted more than a century ago. There are about 500 trees in the row, imported from Australia and donated by a cattle rancher.

While the tunnel has been damaged by hurricanes over the years, it seems to repair itself with time.  Roll down your windows so that you can enjoy the scent of the gum trees as you pass through.
