Traveling WiFi: Free, Fast, or Both?

WiFi has become as necessary to travelers as a toothbrush and passport—although the question of how fast and how expensive continues to develop. Airlines are finding the need for more bandwidth and more speed (see Gumbo newslinks of the past few days)

But both airlines and hotels have found growing resistance to the idea that WiFi is a revenue stream that customers will pay for: a growing number of travelers see at least basic free WiFi as a requirement.

As a result, a trend seems to be developing: free basic and paid premium, with premium bringing more speed, or more content, or both. Here are two articles about how it's developing on airlines (from Skift) and in hotels (Hotel News Now).
