Traveling in an RV: Turning Your RV into the Perfect Home

You’re setting out on a road trip and you’ve decided to rent or buy an RV for your journey. RVs are beneficial for when you’re going on a long trip and would prefer to take your items along instead of having to stop at hotels along the well. They give you the freedom to travel on your own itinerary without having to worry about booking a hotel. Plus, you can take your pet with you!

But whenever you get your RV, you might notice that the environment seems sterile and not very cozy. However, with a few simple tips, you can turn your new RV into the perfect home for you while you travel!

Bring favorite items along

While you need to remember items that will slide around while you’re driving, you should still remember to pack some favorite items that can be easily stored in a cabinet or secured on a wall while the RV is in motion. A few photos of your family is a nice way to add decor to the walls. While you don’t want to bring your entire house along, there is nothing wrong with bringing a few items that make you smile.

Make accessories match

The RV is a small space. While you might love that hot pink blanket you put on the couch and those green curtains you hung above the kitchen sink, remember that too many clashing colors in one room can make it seem chaotic. Since you’re working within a small space, you should either match your accessories or find a clear contrast between the colors. This creates a unified look, which will make spending time in your RV more appealing.

BYOB: Bring your own bedding

Most RVs come with some sort of mattress and maybe even a comforter or two. But whatever bedding comes with the RV is most likely going to be hard and flimsy. To make it easier to sleep at night, you can put a mattress pad over the existing mattress. Plus, bring your sheets, blankets, and pillows! While this might seem like a small thing, using your own bedding will be cozier and help you sleep better at night.

Don’t forget to explore

You won’t want to spend all your free time trapped inside! For example, it is easy to get into the habit of eating all of your meals in your RV. And while purchasing groceries and cooking for yourself will save you money, try out the local restaurants, no matter if it is Southern cuisine or Italian. Then once you return to your RV, you’ll be able to appreciate it even more as your home away from home.

Use storage wisely

You’ll only have a limited amount of space. To make sure all the items you want to bring will fit in the RV, plan your storage options carefully. For example, many people overlook the fact that they can use the back of RV doors as storage. But if you put an over-the-door shoe rack there, you suddenly have a better place for your shoes. Look up tips from seasoned travelers to make the best use of your storage space.

Make use of outdoor space

Most of the time, when renting a campsite, there will be some land around you that you can utilize as an outdoor space. If your RV has an awning, pull it out and use it! Set up some lawn chairs and spend the evening outside relaxing in the great outdoors. And if you have children, bring along some toys they can play with outside. Many children will appreciate being able to run around, which will make your home more peaceful.

Share your travels

Finally, once you’re all settled into your new home, share your travels with friends and families! Plenty of people known as digital nomads earn an income while traveling by monetizing their vlog or blog while traveling. If this idea sounds appealing to you, check out these guides for digital nomads. But even if you’re not interested in earning money, taking photos to share with loved ones is a great way to keep in touch. Plus, they’ll be fun to look back upon!

Final thoughts

Before you head out on adventures in your new RV, take the time to personalize the space. Even something as simple as that ratty old blanket you’ve had since you were a child can make the place seem more like home. Plus, look for inspirations from other RV travelers; there are plenty of them out there!
