The ultimate vacation package: 12 days in space

This may be the ultimate adventure vacation package, if it really gets off the  ground. Aurora Station, a planned modular space station with accommodations for six is being promoted as a hotel in space, offering 12-day trips to customers willing to pay $9.5 million for the trip.

Billed by developer Orion Span as "the first ever luxury space hotel," will offer "a completely authentic, once-in-a-lifetime astronaut experience" with a launch date in 2021 and first guests in 2022. The refundable deposit is $80,000.

Customers will have to undergo training before their journeys, but the company says it has worked out a way to compress the usual 24-month training for astronauts into 3 months.

While in space, Aurora Station guests will soar 200 miles above the Earth's surface in Low Earth Orbit, or LEO, where they will find stunning views of the Earth. The hotel will orbit Earth every 90 minutes, meaning those aboard will see an average of 16 sunrises and sunsets every 24 hours. On return to Earth, guests will be treated to a hero's welcome home.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
