While I'm usually fine using public transportation, once in a while it's nice to splurge a little when you travel. So it was on our last trip to Venice.

We arrived at the Venice train station early in the afternoon and had to make our way to the Hilton Molino Stucky hotel for a medical meeting. I needed to finalize my registration and attend a session later that day, and I didn't want to take the time to s-l-o-w travel by vaporetto connections. Taking a taxi to get to the hotel seemed the most sensible option.
As you all know, there are no roads within Venice. You get around either by walking or traveling by water. Water taxis are not cheap, but they are the quickest way of traveling around the canals of the city. And the most interesting.
Our ride took us from the Grand Canal, under a number of pedestrian bridges (some so low that we had to duck when passing under them), around sharp corners, and past many interesting buildings. My camera clicked snapshots as our trip progressed, which I think capture the flavor of the ride.
The canals seemed to get smaller and smaller, until finally we entered the broad Giudecca Canal, and made our way across it to the hotel.
An interesting and enjoyable ride!
