Sydney puts lights in street to catch texters' eyes

Sydney will start a pilot program, costing AUS $250,000, to get ground level embedded street lights at five business district locations. If successful, further  implementation is possible.

Officials hope street level lights will help protect pedestrians that are glued to smartphones and not paying attention to traffic.

PorMoresby, perhaps it's being done to protect drivers from the hassle of running over one of these folks.  Imagine the paperwork and legal hassle should you apply Natural selection to them if you're behind the wheel -- best to put in flashing lights.
