Sweden's 1956 law that bans bar and restaurant patrons from dancing to the music unless the venue has a special permit appears to finally be on the way out, with the current government pushing for repeal.
A statement by the Justice Minister says “Our starting point is quite simply that it is not reasonable for the state to regulate whether people are allowed to dance or not... The government has taken on board the criticisms from the Council on Legislation and is now pushing the proposal onward to parliament.”
Repealing the law has been a popular cause for some time now, but had not been fully embraced by government. The criticism referred to came from the Council on Legislation, which had said the government should hold more consultations on the issue.
