Sweden: Something fishy about this accident

Swedish motorists had an unusual excuse for being late to work Wednesday, even if there was something fishy about the tale: Five thousand litres of pickled herring spewed across a highway at Brodalen just after 9 am

The slippery cargo, estimated at five to ten cubic metres of herring forced a road closure until workers could clean it up. It's unclear whether the cargo was fresh, or headed for fermentation; this week is the start of the season for the fermented herring that's a Swedish 'delicacy.'

The accident makes it seem as if Sweden is prone to odd road accidents involving food. In recent months, another cargo of herring—100 barrels of pickled fish—went onto the road  a Mellerud, and 20 tonnes of meatballs rolled out at Skara.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
