Surprises in Sweden's Gingerbread contest

It's that time of year again, and gingerbread houses get their best press of the year, especially when sparked by events like the annual gingerbread house competition sponsored by the Swedish Center for Architecture and Design.

This year's crop has some unusual entries: Since contestants were asked to follow the theme of 'around the corner,' incorporating events in the news, one contestant included the king cobra, Sir Hiss, who escaped from the Skansen zoo last month and led keepers a merry chase until he decided to return.

TheLocal's Swedish edition has posted a gallery of potential winners, including ones that highlight climate change and another that features Santa's sleigh in a routine traffic accident Click HERE to see those and more!

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
