Sunflower Lanyard scheme spreads at airports

More U.S. airports—San Jose is the latest—are joining in a program that originated in England, to help people with hidden disabilities deal with airports and other public spaces by distributing lanyards or other marks with a sunflower logo.

While some disabilities are obvious and easily recognized by airport staff, many, including low vision, partial hearing loss, heart issues, diabetes and more, do not. The sunflower signals staff that someone may need more help, more time at check-in or other assistance.

In addition to San Jose, the program is available at Orlando, Miami, Seattle, Minneapolis-St Paul and New York JFK.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
