India is a country that has a quite old civilization. And has many important monuments of the world. Many richest people in the world like Mukesh Ambani live in India. And it is also one of the world’s fastest developing countries. But the standard of living is still mostly poor. As its majority population is either middle class or poor class. Only a small percentage of people have the luxury of being in the rich class.

  • Population and Living Standard:

India being the second most populated country has tried to improve its standard of living but still to this date according to some studies India is developing day by day but its living standards are still low. Relocation to India can be a good choice as it is a fast-developing country and you can have a good lifestyle if you earn a handsome amount of money.

  • Poverty Line:

Many political parties have also promised and tried to improve their living standards and that might be the reason why India no longer holds the title of nations with the largest population under poverty. Both poor class and middle-class form most of the population of India and about 300 to 350 million people are of the middle class in India.

About 75% of the poor people are daily wagers and are self-employed people that spent most of their life in a rural area, villages. And India was once the nation with the most poverty but now it is less compared to Nigeria. Still, for a nation, this growing day by day and having most of its population earning even less than 1.25 USD daily is a bad thing. And $1.25 is also the International Poverty line and according to the planning commission of India about 27.5% of people earn below this poverty line (in 2004-2005).

  • Decent Living Standards (DLS):

Even today according to a study 15 to 93% of Indian people don’t even have decent living standards means they are deprived of even basic necessities of life. These basic necessities include food, clean drinking water, clothes and safe shelter. And according to the World Bank in 2015 more than 50% of the population of India was lacking decent living standards (DLS) means basic things to live life properly. But it is said to be improved by 2030.

While it is developing in metropolitan cities, India still lacks to provide most of the DLS to people in village areas. And sanitation, clean food, transport services etc, are some things that are not available to people living in the outskirts. India's economy has grown quite a bit in the past two decades and its government has also tried to formulate different policies to help unemployed poor people to get work and to develop rural infrastructure. They even offered a Rural Employment Guarantee Bill in 2005 that helped 200 households to earn money for 100 days minimum.

  • Infrastructure:

After the independence of India, many political parties have ruled over India. And a large amount of money is dedicated to infrastructure in India every year. But still, it is not as developed as it should be. Almost all of the infrastructure development is done by the public sector which is famous for its corruption. Metro was first made in Calcutta city. And many others are now formed and are operational.

Even telecommunications and Internet facilities are also not properly managed in India. And according to a study of 2007, in 20 cities the average duration of water supply is only 4.3 hours per day.

  • Conclusion:

India is a developing country with most of its population lacking even basic facilities like clean water. But it is also improving its condition at a fast pace. And it is said that it will improve by the end of 2030.
