If the past year has seemed an unusual one for Europe's weather, with the emphasis on extra-hot weather, it's only confirmed by new data from Spain's national weather office, Aemet.
According to Aimet's figures, Spain's average temperature for 2022 was 15.5C, or about 60F, and that's including both summer and winter, night and day. It's the highest since records started in 1916. Included in the year were heat waves in May, July and October.
Switzerland, too, has a new high to report, its highest-ever January temperature north of the Alps. January 1st temperature in the village of Delemont was 20.2C or nearly 70F.
