Southwest 'making nice' after meltdown

As Southwest Airlines continues to get its house back in order after the historic Christmas week meltdown that left many thousands of passengers stranded and left others without their bags, it's begun making goodwill gestures in hopes of not losing customers.

Travelers whose trips were disrupted or canceled are already in line for refunds, travel credit and reimbursement for expenses, but the airline has now been notifying them that they will receive 25,000 Rapid Rewards loyalty points as well. The points should be enough for about $325 worth of Southwest tickets.

The airline also gave a little for some of its regulars: Those who were hoping to achieve elite status by the December 31 deadline have been given an extra month to qualify, and a number of credits, including the airline's Companion Pass benefit, have also received a month's grace.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
