Now you can sleep your way between Los Angeles and San Francisco on a luxury bus with lounges and sleeping compartments similar to those on long-distance trains.
Cabin, a small bus company with a new idea, is offering the service with specially-converted 24 passenger buses that feature private sleeping areas, ports and outlets, amenities and tea and coffee, for $85 to $115, depending on the day.
While much cheaper airfares are available, the company hopes there are enough passengers who will find it more relaxing than the hassle of airports and flying. As well, it can save the cost of a hotel night. But it only works for trips long enough to resemble a night's sleep.
Company CEO Tom Currier, thinks there are 240 high-volume routes in the U.S. that could work—but first, the California route needs to succeed; a USA Today reporter who tried it out found there were many empty berths.
