This must be the ultimate 'glamping' or luxury camping trip: Silversea cruises is offering a 10-night trip to Antarctica by private jet that includes an overnight in tents—heated of course—right at the South Pole marker. All for only $78,000.
The remaining nights will also be in luxury tents, at a camp on the edge of the continent. Activities include a visit to an emperor penguin colony (will formal dress be required?) and an expedition into Antarctic ice caves.
Silversea, known for its luxury cruises, is offering a number of other 'Couture Collection' itineraries, meant to be paired with the company's cruises. They include an eight-night tour to visit remote reindeer herders and eagle hunters in Mongolia, and a six-night jaunt to the Australian Outback.
Silversea is about to embark on a corporate adventure of its own; a controlling interest in the company is being bought by Royal Caribbean.
