September 28, 2020: Frank Sinatra's 1961 Ghia

One of the rarer cars in Reno's National Automobile Museum is this 1961 Ghia L6.4. It was one of only 26 cars made by Ghia in three years of production, and this particular vehicle was owned by the one and only "Chairman of the Board", Frank Sinatra.

The Ghia is an interesting car in that it is an Italian-American hybrid, the Italians building the body and Americans providing the engine and transmission. The car was designed by the Milan firm, Carrozzeria Ghia, and Chrysler powered it with a 383 cid V8 engine. The car was assembled in Milan and had a base price of $13,000 (Mr. Sinatra's car had upgrades making it worth $15,000).

It was always intended to be a rare car, with plans to produce one a week, but demand was not there and of the 26 made, only 17 remain.
