Ryanair takes a holiday from the web

Ryanair, which charges passengers €55 apiece if they show up at the airport without a printed boarding pass, shut down its check-in website for 12 hours this week, making it impossible to check in online from Wednesday at 5 pm to this morning at 5 am.

The airline says it notified affected passengers by e-mail, telling them to check-in and print their boarding passes Tuesday. It's not known what Ryanair will do for any passengers who did not get the e-mail or who were unable to print before the shutdown.

Ryanair communication chief Robin Kiely said the shutdown, which also shut down the Ryanair mobile app, was due to "continued digital development." He added: “We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused by this upgrade, which will further improve Ryanair.com, Europe’s largest travel website.”

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
