Qatar: No love for the A380

The bad knocks keep on coming for the Airbus A380; orders canceled, production ended and more and more airlines removing the fuel-hungry super-jumbo from their fleets. And now dissatisfied owners are dissing it.

Qatar CEO Akbar al Baker, at a recent industry conference, called it "one of the worst aircraft when it comes to emissions that is flying today. That is why we have decided that we will not operate them for the foreseeable future and even when we operate them we will only operate half the numbers we have."

That means Qatar's other five A380s will be retired; unlike some other aircraft there is no secondary market for the plane with nearly all operators other than Emirates shedding them now, or announcing plans to. Several have already been cannibalized for parts.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
