Pizza Museum pop-up opens in Chicago

How could it be that there's no permanent museum to honor pizza?

At least for now, there's only a pop-up in Chicago, operated by the U.S. Pizza Museum, which up to now has existed only on-line and as temporary exhibits on aspects of pizza culture and history.

The Chicago location, at the Roosevelt Collection open-air shopping plaza, opened last Friday, and will remain open Fridays and weekends at least through October. Its run, which may be extended, includes not only exhibits, but also activities such as dough-making workshops and pizza parties.

Artifacts on display include menus, artworks, vintage ads, T-shirts and more. Kendall Bruns, museum founder, says “As America’s favorite food, pizza provides an easy entry point to learn about history, pop culture, and the people behind the pizza. We expect the exhibits to have a nostalgic effect on viewers.”

And probably sending them running for a slice at the nearest pizza joint.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
