Paris gets new tourist 'ducks'

Paris now has its own version of the amphibious 'duck' tours that can be found in many cities using former military landing vehicles. But in Paris, the ducks are different: The tour uses a purpose-built bus/boat with a thrill ride built in.

Les Canards (yes, that's ducks) de Paris has been operating since this summer with the first French vehicle licensed for both road and river. And it enters the river with a spectacular splash, at speed, just to give the customers a thrill, which you can see near the end of the video below.

The bus/boat starts its tour with an airline-style life-vest lesson; it carries life preservers on its ceiling and an anchor at the back. Adult fare is €35. And, in the words of one 8-year-old interviewed by Reuters, it was "very different from other boats, and other buses. It's a mix of both."

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
