I saw these powerful beasts in Ninh Binh Province in northern Vietnam, near the village of Tam Coc.
They are used by local farmers to pull carts and work in the fields, and are often seen ploughing rice paddies. Ox cart rides are sometimes offered to tourists, and I thought the one dressed in colourful garb might be used for that purpose, but it wasn’t happening while I was there.
The oxen seemed fairly content and well-fed and were not bothered by the numerous people who wanted to touch them.
